Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford plans to return in 2025, but could seek a new contract, per report…

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has announced his intention to continue playing in the 2025 NFL season. However, his future with the Rams remains uncertain due to contractual considerations.

Stafford, who will turn 37 before the upcoming Super Bowl, recently completed his 16th NFL season and fourth with the Rams. In the 2024 season, he amassed 3,762 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and eight interceptions over 16 regular-season games. Notably, he delivered strong performances in the postseason, including a 324-yard, two-touchdown game in the divisional round against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Last offseason, Stafford and the Rams restructured his contract, resulting in a $49.6 million cap hit for the 2025 season. According to Over The Cap, the Rams could save $27 million by trading him after June 1 or $23 million by releasing him post-June 1.

Head coach Sean McVay has emphasized the importance of resolving Stafford’s situation promptly. He stated, “We don’t want to have that go on again. I don’t think that’s good for anybody. I think sooner than later, being able to get that clarity. Understanding clear, open and honest communication.

As discussions progress, both Stafford and the Rams aim to reach a mutually beneficial agreement that addresses financial considerations while ensuring the team’s competitiveness in the upcoming season.
