NEWS FLASH: ELI TOMAC REPORTS THAT IN TAMPA, HE SUSTAINED A BROKEN FIBULA.

In a surprising turn of events, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Eli Tomac has announced that he sustained a broken fibula during the qualifying session at Round 5 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship in Tampa, Florida, on February 8, 2025. Initially believed to be a minor injury, further medical evaluations revealed the severity of the fracture, leading to his withdrawal from upcoming races.

The incident occurred during a qualifying lap at Raymond James Stadium, where Tomac’s leg was injured upon landing from a jump. Despite the injury, he demonstrated remarkable determination by competing in both his heat race and the main event that evening, securing a 17th-place finish and earning valuable championship points. Reflecting on the situation, Tomac expressed his disappointment, stating, “Unfortunately, this was more than an ankle sprain and a bruised calf. After two days of pain not improving, I got additional scans on my leg, and I do have a broken fibula.”

Tomac is scheduled to undergo surgery on Friday, February 14, in Vail, Colorado. He mentioned, “Tomorrow I’m getting more scans to see what is going on… and then we are making a game plan for surgery on Friday.” At this time, there is no definitive timeline for his return to racing, as his focus remains on a full recovery.

The injury is a significant setback for Tomac, who had been performing exceptionally well this season, including a notable victory in San Diego. Rich Simmons, the 450 Team Manager for Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing, commented on Tomac’s resilience: “We’re all really bummed for Eli. He has been riding so great and was right there in the hunt for this championship… knowing what we know now, it speaks volumes about Eli’s grit and determination.”

As Tomac embarks on his recovery journey, the motocross community awaits further updates regarding his rehabilitation and potential return to the sport.
