After renowned Celtics color analyst Mike Gorman referred to former Boston Celtics star Grant Williams as a “bad locker room guy,”
Williams faced criticism. Williams gave an explanation for his belief that he still maintains positive ties with his old Boston colleagues
in an exclusive conversation with Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer.
“Jaylen and I have a conversation about that, and it’s one of those things where you hear things like that, where guys aren’t really
aware of the true situation, and it’s funny.” You can’t really talk about it much, though. I know I’ve always made an effort to show
respect to those people in Boston, particularly the staff commentators. Thus, I’m surprised that Gorman said that,” Williams stated in
an article published on March 16.
Williams continued by saying that several of his old Celtics teammates are still in contact with him.
“Over my career, I have had more conversations with those guys than most.” Guys like (Derrick White), (Payton Prichard), (Sam
Hauser), and (Al Horford) have been instrumental in my career and during my time in Boston.
Williams was moved by the Celtics to the Dallas Mavericks, who then dealt him to the Charlotte Hornets.
Brutally Honest Comments about Grant Williams from Mike Gorman
Williams made these remarks in reference to Gorman’s March 13 appearance on “Toucher and Hardy” on 98.5 The Sports Hub.
Gorman gave an explanation of Dallas’s problems and the reasons he thinks Williams is a terrible locker room presence.
Everyone found him to be obnoxious. At first, he seemed like a wise ass, but now that I think about it, he’s actually sort of cute and
amusing. After then, it simply became boring. Obviously, things grew stale in Dallas. You won’t be around for very long if you start to
challenge (Luka) Doncic.
Williams’ play, according to Gorman, couldn’t make up for the things he had done behind the scenes.
“Yeah, he had some problems in that area, but if he doesn’t get rid of them, he won’t have enough for teams to decide to keep him
around because he’s such a great player.” He isn’t. He is a stand-in. The players that rank eighth, ninth, or tenth on your roster are
highly interchangeable. He’s not a good guy in the locker room. Being a horrible locker room person will make you rank eighth or
ninth, but you won’t be in that position for very long because you won’t be playing for the team.
Grant Williams is defended by Jayson Tatum
Tatum defended Williams on his X account the same day Gorman’s remarks went viral.
Jaylen Brown also shared Tatum’s remarks on his X account. Williams yelled at Tatum for standing up for him in their conversation
with Boone.
That did indeed mean the world, Williams said. To be honest, I didn’t even ask him for his opinion.
Williams explained, “That’s why it was even cooler, and I had to thank him after because that’s my dog for life.” “And they’re all those
guys up in Boston,”
Before the season ends, the Celtics will play Hornet twice more, which means they will see Williams barring any unexpected injuries.
