On Wednesday, college football teams from all over the nation made a major impression during National Signing Day. Near the top of
the recruiting rankings were the typical suspects, such as Oregon, Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State football. Some teams, meanwhile,
didn’t perform as well as they had hoped. For instance, neither the football teams from Michigan or Washington—who recently
participated in the national championship game—were ranked in the top 15 in the 2024 recruiting class. For both the Huskies and the
Wolverines, the offseason has not been easy. Each of them lost their head coach after competing in the national championship game
barely a month ago. These two teams will be examined since they did not hire as
A month ago, Michigan football defeated Washington to win the national title, capping the college football season. Many things have
evolved since then. none of the two teams that participated in the national championship game currently has a head coach, and none
of them stood out significantly in the recruiting class of 2024. In the end, Kalen DeBoer had a very strong class, but since he is the new
head coach of Alabama, he didn’t have to put in much effort. Many clubs would be delighted with Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines’
class, but after taking home a national championship, it may be even better.
Already, this offseason has been extremely hectic, especially for Michigan. Jim Harbaugh departed the program to take a position as
head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers shortly after the Wolverines won the national championship game. But Harbaugh has brought
along a sizable portion of the coaching staff, so it didn’t end there. In addition to losing each of those coaches, Michigan’s national
championship team is losing the majority of its production to the NFL. Such incidents follow a national championship. After achieving
their objective, people are now moving on. It all has an impact on hiring.
We’ll talk about the unfortunate teams from National Signing Day at Michigan football, Washington, and other schools.
According to 247 Sports, Ohio State placed #5 overall in the 2024 recruiting class. The Buckeyes concluded with four five-star recruits
overall, including wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, the best overall recruit. Four of them have five stars, fourteen have four stars, and
three have three stars. Since joining the Ohio State staff, Ryan Day has done a fantastic job at recruiting, and he is expecting another
very strong class. The Buckeyes are returning a lot of talent from last season that could have left for the NFL, and they also have one of
the best transfer classes in the nation. They have a strong squad, and Ryan Day will be in hot water if they can’t defeat Michigan at
home.
“Oregon, welcome to the Big Ten. Dan Lanning had the option to leave the Ducks and become a coach at Alabama, but he chose to
stay, and the team he leads should be excellent the next season. With a large number of four-star recruits, Oregon’s recruiting class
ended up ranking third in the nation. Their breakdown is as follows: 0 players are five stars, 22 players are four stars, and 5 players are
three stars. However, based on 247’s composite rankings, their top two players, Elijah Rushing and Gatlin Bair, are both five stars. In
their inaugural season, Oregon should challenge for a Big Ten championship and prove to be a formidable team the next year.
Georgia will return, even though they didn’t win their third consecutive national championship this past season. For the 2024 cycle,
the Bulldogs had the best recruiting class in the nation. Three four-stars, 19 four-stars, and five five-stars were brought in. All of this
came about after Georgia lost out to Nebraska for the nation’s best QB recruit. It made no difference; the Bulldogs still have the best
class in the nation and are loaded. CB Ellis Robinson IV, the #2 prospect in the class, is their top commit. Fantastic work, Dawgs.
Let’s now examine the teams that had less favorable circumstances for their 2024 recruiting class. Let’s start by examining the current
national champions.
Michigan
The recruiting class for Michigan football in 2024 was intriguing. The class was ranked #1 in the nation at one time, and the
Wolverines were hitting all of their targets at first. After that, it started to slow down and was dropping in the ranks. Though Michigan
is on our list due to their impressive performance over the last three years, it is crucial to recognize that this is still a good class.
Despite having just won the national championship, they are still behind several other schools including Georgia, Oregon, and Ohio
State.
