The Detroit Lions are now a real Super Bowl contender because to their outstanding roster construction over the last few years. However, in order to keep the train going, general manager Brad Holmes has also done a fantastic job of replacing departing players. The hiring of veteran guard Kevin Zeitler, who signed a three-year, $51 million contract in free agency to replace guard Jonah Jackson after the latter left for the Los Angeles Rams, is one instance of that.

Considering how much less expensive Zeitler is than Jackson, he has turned out to be an excellent addition. The Lions’ top offensive line hasn’t lost a beat since the former Pro Bowl player settled down at Detroit. However, Zeitler will turn 35 next year and be eligible for free agency, thus his future at the guard position is uncertain after 2024. There is no doubt that the Lions will want to re-sign him, but free agency is unpredictable.
In light of this, the Scouting Department at Bleacher Report projects that the Lions will select Trey Smith, a guard for the Kansas City Chiefs who is in the last year of his rookie deal at $3.6 million, to replace Zeitler.
