The first domino fell on Monday, suggesting that the quarterback room of the Pittsburgh Steelers may soon undergo significant

changes.

Steelers offseason positional primer: Quarterback options for 2024

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and the Steelers are parting ways amicably. With two

years remaining on his deal, Trubisky will now be free to sign with any team in the world.

This trade was unavoidable because Trubisky would have been due $5.25 million in 2024 and did not seem to have much of a chance

to start for Pittsburgh. For the veteran, who was brought in to contend for the starting job two years ago, it represents a sharp

turnabout in his circumstances. In the end, he was benched in favor of Kenny Pickett and never recovered

The Steelers gave Trubisky a new contract a year ago, demonstrating their strong belief in him. But things rapidly shifted, and

Trubisky found himself the odd man out as the Steelers searched for a new veteran to go up against Pickett.

Could this Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver be acquired by the Chicago Bears?

Could the Chicago Bears swing a deal for this Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver?

Wide receiver trade talks have previously taken place between the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers, with the Steelers emerging

victorious. If the Bears could get Diontae Johnson through a trade this summer, would they go back to the well?

Would Diontae Johnson be acquired by the Chicago Bears by trading the Pittsburgh Steelers?

Technically speaking, Johnson just finished one of his worst seasons. From 1,195 yards in 2021 to 882 yards in 2022 and only 765

yards in 2023, he had a decline. Johnson just has one year left on his contract, so cutting him might save the Steelers $10 million.

The time to consider a trade is now if the Steelers do not see Johnson in their plans after this season, as he has already voiced his

dissatisfaction with the quarterback situation in Pittsburgh.

The Bears aim to surround their soon-to-be quarterback with the greatest group of quality players. Johnson would trail D.J. Moore by

exactly two spots. Even if statistically he wasn’t at his best, missing weeks two through six had a major role in it.

He returned in week seven, and starting in week twelve, he averaged 2.1 yards per route run and 54 yards per game. With 1.9 yards per

route run at the end of the season, he set a career high and

Johnson appears to be deteriorating and might be a player that organizations would like to avoid. He is still among the top route

runners, though, and a dependable receiver as well. The Bears might make up for losing out on Chase Claypool two years ago by

adding Johnson while he was at a low and watching him improve with a superior quarterback group.
