The Penrith Panthers and England’s York RLFC have recently launched a historic partnership aimed at advancing rugby league on an international scale. This three-year collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), marks a first between an Australian NRL team and an English Championship club. The partnership involves joint initiatives to foster youth development, increase commercial innovation, and create new talent pathways for both men’s and women’s rugby.

The alliance also emphasizes women’s rugby, with the Panthers set to work closely with York’s women’s team, the York Valkyrie, who are back-to-back Women’s Super League champions. This aspect of the partnership holds great promise for the Panthers, as they aim to leverage the Valkyrie’s expertise in developing a stronger women’s rugby program.

Panthers CEO Matt Cameron expressed his enthusiasm, emphasizing that this international partnership will facilitate shared knowledge and resources to strengthen rugby league at all levels. York RLFC Chairman Clint Goodchild also highlighted how the collaboration will benefit both clubs, particularly in establishing a model for community involvement and youth engagement, essential areas in rugby’s expansion.
