Ronnie O’Sullivan, the seven-time world snooker champion, has recently been granted residency in Hong Kong under the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme. This move reflects his deep appreciation for the city, its favorable tax system, and the local enthusiasm for snooker. O’Sullivan has expressed intentions to open multiple snooker practice halls in Hong Kong and is actively searching for a residence in Kowloon.

Despite these developments, there has been no official announcement from O’Sullivan regarding his retirement from professional snooker. However, discussions about his potential retirement have been circulating. In a recent interview, fellow snooker professional Judd Trump suggested that fans “won’t see him many more times” in major tournaments, indicating that O’Sullivan’s career may be approaching its conclusion. Additionally, snooker legend Stephen Hendry predicted that O’Sullivan might be the first among their contemporaries to retire.

O’Sullivan himself has hinted at the possibility of retirement in the near future. He mentioned considering stepping away from the sport within the next three years, stating, “I haven’t got long.” Moreover, he has indicated that certain changes in the sport, such as the introduction of darts-style walk-on music, could influence his decision to retire sooner.

While O’Sullivan’s relocation to Hong Kong signifies a new chapter in his life, it does not confirm his immediate retirement from professional snooker. As of now, he remains an active competitor, and any official statements regarding his retirement would come directly from him or his management team.
