Pittsburgh This past week, ESPN commentator Chris Mortensen passed away, leaving the NFL world without a legend. The Pittsburgh
Steelers expressed their condolences to his family and loved ones as soon as they learned of the news.
The Steelers condoled with Mortensen’s family via a statement on X, the former name of Twitter.
“We offer our sympathies to Chris Mortensen’s family and loved ones. They wrote, “May he rest in peace.”
At seventy-two, Mortensen was arguably the most recognizable person in sports media when it came to the NFL and the NFL Draft.
He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame later that year after winning the Dick McCann Award from the Pro Football
Writers of America in 2016.
Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the NFL, described Mortensen’s passing as a “sad day for everyone in the NFL.”
In a statement, Goodell added, “I admired how hard Chris worked to become one of the most influential and revered reporters in
sports.” “He won the respect of many people, including us, for his unwavering pursuit of news and his friendliness to everyone he
encountered. Several of us will miss him terribly.
“We send our condolences to his family, his colleagues and the many people Chris touched throughout his well-lived life.”
The veteran journalist worked for ESPN for thirty years. After receiving a throat cancer diagnosis in 2016, he left his position to take
care of his family and health. He promptly went back to being one of the best sports voices of all time upon his comeback.
