This is the closest Eric Winters has ever come to making a choice.
Following the January/February contact window, Winters visited with several of his top targets, including Auburn and Georgia. Those
two programs have always been at the top of the Enterprise (Ala.) defensive prospect’s priority list. Winters most recently traveled to
Georgia for Junior Day on February 3.
This week saw the release of ESPN NFL analyst Field Yates’ first-round mock draft for the 2024 NFL Draft, following the conclusion of
the 2023 college football and NFL seasons. He has three Georgia players in his mock draft for the first round. The first player is tight
end Brock Bowers, who has consistently finished in the top 10 of mock selections thus far. Yates anticipates him as
2023 saw 56 receptions by Bowers for 714 yards and six touchdowns, along with six rushes for 28 yards and one touchdown in ten
games. Due to his performance this season, Bowers was named to both the first team of the Coaches’ All-SEC and the Associated Press
All-SEC. He was chosen for the AP team without a vote. In program history, Bowers is one of only three three-time All-Americans,
along with Herschel Walker and David Pollack. In college football history, Bowers is the only player to have won the Mackey Award
twice in a row.
The Baltimore Ravens are slated to select cornerback Kamari Lassiter at pick No. 30 overall.
While the organization allowed youngsters like Daylen Everette, Julian Humphrey, and Nyland Green to battle for Kelee Ringo’s job at
cornerback, Lassiter entered 2023 as the team’s proven starter. In just 13 games, Lassiter shown his readiness for the task in 2023 by
recording 37 tackles, 8 pass break-ups, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks. The Georgia defense gave up just 177.7 passing yards per
game and just 16.6 points per game with Lassiter’s assistance. For his efforts, he was selected to the 2023 Coaches’ second-team All-
SEC roster.
Amarius Mims, an offensive tackle, is selected by the San Francisco 49ers with the very next pick, No. 31 overall.
Mims, a right tackle who was selected to the Preseason All-SEC First Team, participated in seven games this year. Mims had an ankle
injury in the conference opener against South Carolina that necessitated surgery and kept him out of action for six games. After being
back in the starting lineup against Ole Miss, Mims suffered a re-injured ankle early in Georgia’s SEC Championship loss to Alabama.
As a result, he had to leave the game in the first half, causing Georgia to rearrange its offensive line.
