For the past two years, Badgley has been on and off the Lions roster. In 2022, he began his first term on the practice squad. After being
elevated to the main roster, he went on to play in 12 games for the team, making 20 of 24 field goals.
Riley Patterson and John Parker Romo were two of the rivals the Lions signed in 2023 to contend for the starting position. Badgley
was cut before training camp began, but before the beginning of the season, he was added back to the practice squad.
In a competition that took place in the middle of the 2023 season, Badgley ultimately emerged victorious against Patterson as the
team’s kicker.
Special teams coordinator Dave Fipp said, “Over the course of six weeks, Badgley had been better, and we didn’t want to rush to make
that decision right away.” “In the end, it was evident that he was performing better, but we felt he deserved as fair of an opportunity as
we could have given him.”
Badgley rewarded that choice with three of his four regular-season field goals and thirteen of his fifteen extra-point attempts (one was
blocked). Badgley was flawless once more in the playoffs, hitting three of three field goals, including a crucial
