Three Years Prior
Marcus Semien inked a $18 million, one-year contract with the Blue Jays.
Following a dismal 2020 year with the A’s (shortened by the COVID epidemic), Semien batted just.223/.305/.374
with 7 home runs in 53 games. He had a great year the previous year, hitting.285/.369/.522 with 33 home runs.
After the 2021 season, Marcus hoped to sign a one-year contract to develop value in order to acquire a bigger one. It
proved effective for both him and the Jays. Playing in all 162 games, he had a slash line of.265/.334/.538 with 45
home runs. He was selected for the AL All-Star team, took home the second base Gold Glove, and finished third in
the MVP vote. It would be beneficial for a
With the Texas Rangers, Semien converted it into a seven-year, $175 million contract. So it was a good decision for
him to accept the one-year offer.
He had a 13.1 bWAR, 55 home runs, and a batting average of.262/.327/.454 in his first two seasons with the Rangers.
He may be inducted into the Hall of Fame if his next five seasons play out as well.
Additionally, Davis Schneider turns 25 today.
When Davis initially joined the Jays in August of last year, I don’t need to tell you how amazing he was. In his first
three teams, he had two home runs and nine hits. He slowed down and then launched a nine-game hitting streak that
included four home runs.
Near the conclusion of the season, he went nine games without hitting, but in his first thirty-five Major League
games, he hit.276/.404/.603 with eight home runs.
I’m hoping the team will give him another opportunity to prove himself this season.
Davis, happy birthday.
