BEREA, Ohio β The roster from 2023 and 2024 will be broken down and analyzed position by position by The Greetham Angle. This
offseason, the Cleveland Browns will have to make some tough choices regarding every player on their roster.
We’ll examine the roster by position, the players who are still under contract, and the players who are scheduled to become free agents
over the course of the next few weeks.
A summary of the defensive ends is provided below:
The good news is that Myles Garrett, the defensive player of the year, is a member of the Cleveland Browns. In addition to Garrett, the
Browns saw an increase in sack total from 34 in 2023 to 48 in 2023. After recording 20 sacks in 2022, the Browns edge rushers
accounted for 30 of the total. Garrett possessed 16 of the 20 sacks in 2022. The Browns were distributed far more widely within the
group in 2023. Garrett had the highest score with 14, followed by Ogbonnia Okoronkwo (4.5), Alex Wright (5.0), and Za’Darius Smith
(5.5).
In terms of yards allowed (263.1) and passing yards allowed (164.7), the Browns defense led the NFL in both categories.
The Browns currently have six defensive ends under contract until 2024.
The edge rushers who finished the 2023 season on the active roster, injured reserve, or practice squad are listed below:
Myles Garrett (6-4, 272, Texas A&M, 7th year) With 42 tackles, 14 sacks, three passes intercepted, four forced fumbles, and a fumble
recovery, Garrett, 28, concluded the season strong. It was Garrett’s fifth Pro Bowl appearance. Garrett’s first-ever NFL Defensive
Player of the Year victory occurred. Garrett has a $20.168 million salary cap under contract through 2024.
Za’Darius Smith (9th year, Kentucky, 6-4, 270) Smith, 31, recorded 27 tackles, 5.5 sacks, three interceptions, and one forced fumble by
the end of the season. Smith can sign with any team.
Ogbonnia Okoronkwo (6-2, 250, Oklahoma, sixth year) Despite missing three games due to a torn pectoral, 28-year-old Okoronkwo
finished the season with 31 tackles, 4.5 sacks, a pass breakup, and a fumble recovery. Okoronkwo has a $6.42 million salary cap under
contract through 2024.
Alex Wright (6-5, 267, UAB, second year) The 23-year-old Wright recorded 25 tackles, five sacks, two interceptions, two forced
fumbles, and one fumble recovery by the end of the season. In the 2022 NFL Draft, he was selected in the third round. Wright has a
$1.186 million salary cap under contract through 2024.
Isaiah Thomas (6-5, 266; Oklahoma, 2nd year) After undergoing knee surgery in the offseason, 25-year-old Thomas played the whole
season on the practice squad. In the 2022 NFL Draft, Thomas was selected in the seventh round. He ended with nine tackles, one sack,
two interceptions, and a fumble recovery in his debut campaign. Thomas is under contract for 2024 with a salary cap number of
$915,000.
