Tiki Barber, a former player for the New York Giants, NFL commentator for CBS Sports, and semifinalist for the Pro
Football Hall of Fame, criticized the New York Jets for investing heavily in Aaron Rodgers around the spring transfer
deadline.
Ryan Chichester of Audacy reports that Barber stated, “‘The road to success would be a lot more crowded if people
didn’t get off looking for shortcuts,” on Monday’s episode of WFAN’s “Evan and Tiki” program. “Going after Aaron
Rodgers was a shortcut, even though I couldn’t have declared it to be one in real time. It involved working on
improving one’s drafting skills, developing one’s grind, and assembling players with skill positions to support the
offensive line. It was an evasion of the steps required to
This past Saturday marked Rodgers’ 40th birthday. Prior to the season, he struggled with several calf strains. On
September 11, four plays into the Jets’ regular season, he sustained a torn Achilles. The choice by New York to
replace Rodgers with third-year signal-caller Zach Wilson backfired miserably, as Wilson was benched by head coach
Robert Saleh during the team’s Nov. 19 Week 11 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Wilson might or might not be “reluctant to step back into the starting role” for a team that has allowed the third-
highest number of sacks (51) in the league this year, according to StatMuse. This coming Sunday, the 4-8 Jets will
play the 7-5 Houston Texans in an attempt to snap a five-game losing streak.

Barber continued, labeling the state of affairs a “disaster.”
The ESPN Football Power Index gave the Jets little chance of making the playoffs as of early Monday night. Reason
dictates that Rodgers shouldn’t jeopardize his long-term health by forcing his way back into the lineup before Week
18 in order to play behind an offensive line that has consistently let quarterbacks down this fall, especially after he
accepted a salary cut this past summer to play for the Jets through the following season.
