Sergio Perez did not progress at the Australian Grand Prix. Perez’s swift Red Bull was insufficient to overtake Ferrari. Christian
Horner, the team manager of Red Bull Racing, explains why.
It’s Perez’s responsibility to take Verstappen’s place as the leading Red Bull vehicle after he retires and win. Only last weekend, this did
not occur. The Mexican had to start the race from sixth position due to a grid penalty. In 2024, Perez did not break through the field in
a meaningful way as he has in recent races, despite having a fast car.
Perez had taken a tear off of
Christian Horner explained to multiple media sites following the race why Perez was unable to advance. “We took Checo’s first stint
very seriously. As he got closer to Fernando, he maintained a strong and competitive pace while he was moving through the field on
the hard tyre. Then, as soon as he passed Fernando, he literally picked up a tear from beneath the floor, which became lodged and
significantly reduced load. After then, the car isn’t operating properly. Then, you notice unusual wear and tear on the tire, which
happens again at the end of the second period with our car.”
Therefore, a driver’s rip-off was Perez’s issue. A tear-off is a thin plastic covering that rests over a helmet’s visor. In order to improve
their visibility, drivers remove this multiple times during a race.
Horner, however, has an optimistic outlook on all of Red Bull’s accomplishments and future prospects. It’s clear that this weekend
taught a lot of things. It’s disappointing that we weren’t able to match the 10 straight, but we’re really proud of our accomplishments
thus far.”
