Arkansas’s FAYETTEVILLE There was a noticeable sense of excitement across Arkansas on Wednesday afternoon when it was
announced that Nick Saban was leaving Alabama.
Many Razorbacks supporters found solace in the weight of years and years of losing to the Tide when Saban was leading the club.
Naturally, it was quickly erased when it became clear that Arkansas would not have to play Alabama the following season, but there
There are plenty of other teams who might earn a defeat that would be advantageous to the Hogs.
Therefore, if there was ever a season that the Razorbacks would have benefited from having Saban in charge, this would have been it.
But Arkansas can still gain from the coaching change in several other ways.
The first is if the Hogs’ schedule will influence Tuscaloosa’s next coach. There is a story circulating that Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin
abruptly decided he didn’t want to attend Auburn because Nick Saban called and encouraged him to stay put because he was about to
retire.
There is currently no evidence to back this up. Though it’s probably just people creating their own fan fiction on social media, the idea
is entertaining. If Kiffin were to be taken out of Oxford, it would abruptly stop the momentum that has been steadily gaining ground in
Mississippi. Stopping that would be a major benefit for Arkansas.
Even though Arkansas benefits from that circumstance, it’s not as enjoyable as it might be. The most intriguing way this tale could go
if everyone is creating their own screenplay, if some rich people in Alabama pack up a truck and take Steve Sarkisian out of Texas,
before the insane Longhorns supporters can figure out how to keep him there.
It would be the ideal present to greet the SEC. It would be retaliation for Texas’s previous attempt to take Saban, in addition to being a
little measure of payback for defeating Alabama earlier in the season. Supporters of the Longhorns were telling people about the
famed “Mrs. Terry” because they were so sure they were landing Saban.
Arkansas would gain so much from this. In addition to players leaving Alabama as a result of the general coaching transition,
particularly if Sarkisian instructs some of the current team to depart in favor of his more dependable Longhorns, this would result in a
A large number of players Sam Pittman has recruited are leaving for Texas.
Furthermore, Texas would regress to the competitive team they were in 2021, just as Ole Miss would. The only coach who has elevated
the Longhorns to a competitive level in the football-conscious period of the prospects’ lives is Sarkisian. Apart from the last few years,
Texas has been a doormat state.
Nobody else has been able to address Austin’s cultural issues, and there’s no reason to think that things wouldn’t go back to how they
were when the Longhorns were a top team and people looked forward to playing them.
The worst-case scenario would be if Alabama hired a head coach like Ryan Day of Ohio State. The presence of a prominent program
coach from outside the SEC in Tuscaloosa eliminates the possibility of Arkansas opponents and may also restrict the quantity of
Crimson Tide transfers.
