An 11-6 record would be considered an absolute success for most NFL clubs. It will result in significant adjustments for the
Philadelphia Eagles during the 2024 offseason.
The Eagles are without defensive coordinator Matt Patricia, offensive coordinator Brian Johnson, and defensive coordinator Sean
Desai. Vic Fangio will take their places on the defensive end and Kellen Moore on the offensive end. (Aside: Is the age difference
amongst NFL coordinators greater?)
All eyes are on the Eagles’ roster now that general manager Howie Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni have changed the coaching
staff.
With two new coordinators, there will undoubtedly be changes. Which athletes failed to fulfill their commitments at the start of a
season that started with such
Looking at Philadelphia’s roster as it stands right now, let’s see who might be out of camp come July for training camp.
CB Darius Slay
Eagles supporters, do you sense a déjà vu?
There were several rumors in March 2023 that the Eagles were getting ready to cut loose the seasoned cornerback. Not only did that
deal not happen, but Slay signed a two-year agreement with Philadelphia instead.
A year later, Slay’s release is once more in jeopardy.
In 2023, Slay’s numbers decreased in a number of areas. He played the fewest games (12) of his 11-year career to begin with. In
addition, he surrendered the greatest yards per target (7.0) and completion percentage (61.3%) since 2020, his rookie season with the
Eagles.
The Eagles let up more than 30 points per game in their final seven regular-season games. The Seattle Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals,
and New York Giants (twice) were among the teams that played during that stretch. Not quite a murderer’s row of transgressions.
Naturally, Slay’s and the Birds’ season came to an end when Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers thrashed them 32-9.
Mayfield ran for 337 yards and three touchdowns against the Philadelphia defense.
The Eagles may spread Slay’s $35 million cap hit over two seasons if they declare him a post-June 1 release, but they would lose
nothing in terms of cap space.
