Months after being detained and accused of serious sexual battery in May 2023, the younger Mahomes entered a plea of not guilty to a
simple battery allegation.
Jackson Mahomes, who this week entered a plea of not guilty to his misdemeanor violence allegation, was given a six-month
probationary period.
According to online court records, the 23-year-old sibling of Super Bowl winner Patrick Mahomes was sentenced on Thursday
following his plea, which came two months after three of his four overall charges related to his arrest in May of last year were
dismissed.
After being captured on camera by security cameras at Aspens Restaurant and Lounge in Overland Park, Kansas, in February 2023,
the influencer was first accused of criminal sexual battery last year. It was claimed that he shoved a staff, grabbed the owner by the
neck, and gave her three forceful kisses.
Online court documents show that the three accusations of sexual battery were dropped. Mahomes was sentenced on Thursday in
Johnson County Kansas District Court, where he made an appearance by video conference, according to the Associated Press.
“Jackson is appreciative of his family’s and friends’ support throughout the past year. Jackson was placed on six months of
unsupervised probation after entering a no contest plea to one count of simple violence, according to Brandan Davies, Mahomes’
attorney, who spoke to PEOPLE on Saturday.
“The matter is now closed and we will not be issuing any further statements; Jackson simply wanted the case to be over with and to
move on with his life,” the speaker continued.
Aspen Vaughn, the owner of the restaurant, had stated to The Kansas City Star in 2023 that the incident’s closure was partially
brought on by unfavorable press surrounding Jackson’s prosecution. At the time, she disclosed that she had received death threats and
that Aspens Restaurant and Lounge had been trashed.
According to Vaughn’s statement to the Star, Mahomes went to the restaurant’s basement office with five friends and “forcibly kissed
me out of nowhere.” Mahomes was acquainted with her stepdaughter, who works there.
“And I’m telling him, pushing him off, saying ‘What are you doing?’ and then he proceeded to do it two more times,” Vaughn
recounted in 2016. “Where the last time I was pushing him off, and I can see on the cameras that somebody was outside the office
door, and I was yelling for them to come help because he’s big and massive.”
TMZ released surveillance footage that appeared to show Mahomes kissing the owner while she seemed to push him away.
Additionally, according to The Star, Mahomes is accused of pushing a young, male server out of the room.
Early in January, the AP revealed that Vaughn’s refusal to testify against Mahomes resulted in the dismissal of his charges related to
sexual battery. Following the three charges being dismissed, Davies told PEOPLE that his client “has done nothing wrong.”
