Helmut Marko, an advisor for Red Bull, has pushed Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur to find a spot for Oliver Bearman, an 18-year-

old sensation, on another team.

After veteran driver Carlos Sainz had to have surgery due to appendicitis, Ferrari called up British driver Bearman, who had a fantastic

debut in Formula 1 last weekend at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Teenage hotshot Bearman finished sixth in an incredible debut,

ahead of Lewis Hamilton, and cemented his status as an even more intriguing possibility.

However, as Marko notes, Ferrari appears to be set for the upcoming several years. After agreeing to take over for Sainz at the end of

2024, seven-time world champion Hamilton will replace Charles Leclerc, who recently inked a new long-term contract. Bearman is

therefore unlikely to be able to proceed.

“I thought Ollie Bearman’s Ferrari debut was amazing,” the 80-year-old former driver stated in his Speedweek column. “It was quite

powerful to be on a track like Jeddah like that without any training. He drove almost as well as Charles Leclerc at times. But what’s

Ferrari up to these days?Leclerc has a long-term deal, they are purchasing the pricey Hamilton, and now Bearman is showcasing his

incredible talent. If I were Fred Vasseur, I would look for Bearman an F1 cockpit in no time at all, maybe at Haas or some other team.

“In order to train him, they must now raise funds once more. The teams will pay a heavy price for their current relative financial

saturation.”

Marko continued by drawing comparisons between Bearman’s circumstances and those of Liam Lawson, a 22-year-old reserve driver

for Red Bull and their reserve squad, RB. “Bearman – but also our Liam Lawson last season or Pedro Acosta’s debut in MotoGP [last

Saturday] – shows what truly exceptional talents they are,” said the Austrian.

Yes, the boys are all ready to move up when they move up today. But such accomplishments are only possible for those who are

exceptionally talented from the beginning. Acosta’s attack on Marc Marquez and Bearman’s performance in Saudi Arabia both struck

me as quite refreshing. That is what we would all like to see.”

Given that Hamilton hasn’t even joined yet, Ferrari CEO Vasseur was hesitant to talk about the team’s long-term goals after Bearman’s

outstanding performance in Jeddah. “Don’t start to speak about after Lewis Hamilton, Lewis is still not in the team!” Vasseur said.

“But it’s undoubtedly a positive indication for Ollie and a significant turning point. He’ll be back working on the F2 project in

Melbourne and Imola, and this will be Ollie’s biggest test yet. He will shortly begin the FP1 sessions with Haas, which is crucial for us

to provide him mileage and experience behind the wheel of the vehicle. But he definitely already has the outcome in his pocket with

this one [Jeddah].”
