Following Dell McGee’s departure to Georgia State as their next head coach, the Bulldogs have added a staff member. According to
Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports, rumors have it that James Coley will be the next wide receiver coach for the Georgia Bulldogs. Bryan
McClendon, a former wide receiver coach, just started working as the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator for the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Should Coley be hired by Georgia, it will be his second employment with Kirby Smart’s football team as head
coach. Coley has served as Georgia’s receivers coach on previous occasions. Coley served in that capacity from 2016 to 2017, then
moved on to become the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
coordinator. After departing the Bulldogs following the 2019 campaign, Coley first served as the wide receivers coach at Texas A&M
before moving on to become the tight ends coach and co-offensive coordinator. Although he was just appointed to coach wide
receivers at South Carolina for the upcoming season, it looks like he will be returning to Athens.
There’s no denying the success he has had as a coach in recruiting over the years, even though his tenure as offensive coordinator may
not be well regarded. The Bulldogs should benefit at wide receiver from his track record of constantly drawing in top talent from the
SEC.
