The Green Bay Packers were not picked by many to be in the running for an NFL Playoff berth this season. After all,
they sent Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets in exchange for Jordan Love, their first-round selection in the 2020
NFL Draft. Additionally, they let go of some veterans through free agency and added rookies and other young players
to bolster their lineup, particularly on offense.
Despite not having a winning record since Week Three, Green Bay is only a half-game away from the final NFC wild
card slot with a 5-6 record. They will pass the Seattle Seahawks for that slot if they defeat the Kansas City Chiefs on
Sunday night.
Put another way, the Packers are still a contender for a postseason berth despite all that has been said about them
both before and during the season. Not only is this exciting for the club, but it also makes them potential players in
late-season free agent acquisitions, so it’s vital to keep that in mind.
Three-time Pro Bowl tight end was just waived by the Arizona Cardinals Zachary Ertz
The Cardinals took a gamble on Zach Ertz, a guy who had trouble staying healthy in 2020, when they originally
traded for him in 2021. Ertz struggled to stay on the field after winning three straight Pro Bowls in 2017–2019.
Midway through the 2021 campaign, the Philadelphia Eagles made the decision to trade him as a result.
With the Cardinals, Ertz had a fantastic first half of the season, catching 56 passes for 574 yards and three
touchdowns in 11 games. Sadly, he only managed to play in 10 games in 2022 before his injury problems reappeared.
He has only played in seven games this year, and Arizona has not been good. Throughout his playing career, Ertz has
27 receptions for 187 yards.
According to NFL Insider According to Jordan Schultz, Zach Ertz could be of interest to the Green Bay Packers.
Ben Sims, Tucker Kraft, and Luke Musgrave were the three rookie tight ends on the Packers roster when the season
began. Josiah Deguara is another player on their roster. On the other hand, Musgrave entered injured reserve due to
a ruptured kidney, and Deguara sustained an injury.Due to injuries, the Packers are thin at tight end, and since they
could qualify for the playoffs, NFL Insider Jordan Schultz has revealed that they have recently expressed interest in
signing the now-free agent:
“Green Bay might make sense, in my opinion. I mean, Luke Musgrave’s injury is now your problem.
I’ve asked around about the Packers, and some people in the NFL have said, ‘I think Green Bay makes sense.’
“I’m not claiming that the Packers are interested in this. I’m stating this because I’ve been advised by some in the
league that “Green Bay makes sense.”
“They are becoming more heated. Three of their last four games have been victories. Just two picks have allowed
eight touchdowns from Jordan Love’s passes. They’re playing with great skill.
“Luke Musgrave is hurt, but they like Tucker Kraft too.”
However, Schultz did mention that four organizations had expressed a clear interest.
The Packers themselves have not expressed interest in signing Ertz, as Schultz noted. Rather, he feels that they are a
franchise that makes sense for him and that other people in the NFL should be interested.
The Packers’ connection to Ertz makes sense for exactly one reason, and that is because of the Musgrave injury.
There just isn’t much more justification for them to sign him aside from that. Green Bay really likes Tucker Kraft, as
Schultz said. For the time being, Kraft and Sims could feel that is all they need, provided they stay healthy.
Ertz to Green Bay would be completely illogical for three reasons. The first is that he is an injury-prone veteran that
would
Second, compared to other teams, the Packers will not be spending as much money. This is the reason of their 2021
loss of Odell Beckham Jr. They did converse with him and showed interest, but they could only afford to give him the
league minimum. Rather, Beckham accepted a $4 million contract with the Los Angeles Rams and went on to win a
Super Bowl.
Lastly, Ertz’s career is not at its height right now. He can now sign with any team that expresses interest, and he will
join with the team that offers him the most salary AND the best opportunity to win another Super Bowl. Though
Green Bay is about to make its way into the playoffs,
Furthermore, they hope to rely on the strength of their young roster to advance far in the NFL Playoffs.
Though it’s a nice idea, it’s unlikely that Ertz would want to join with Green Bay and that they would want him.
