JUST NOW: Checo Perez declares his intention to leave the team……

If teammate Max Verstappen departed Red Bull, Sergio Perez said it would be “a blow”.

Two weeks prior, the Dutchman had vowed to quit if teammate Helmut Marko was made to leave. An internal power struggle between

Marko and team principal Christian Horner has obscured the squad’s strong start to the new season.

Mirror Sport is aware that Red Bull would rather maintain Horner and would let Verstappen go if given the choice between the two.

However, it is still preferable for all of their important employees to stay on board.

Perez is also performing from the same script. When questioned about the situation ahead of this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix,

the Mexican said that, despite spending years in Verstappen’s shadow, he wanted his teammate to stick around.

In an interview with reporters, he stated that it would “obviously be a blow for the team if Max were to leave” and that the group was

in a strong position given their current performance and unity. It will probably take a few years to do that, in my opinion.

that we’re on schedule and how effective we’ve been in the previous

Verstappen’s future has naturally been linked to a move to Mercedes, his competitors, as a result of rumors. With Lewis Hamilton

leaving the team at the end of the season to join Ferrari, the Silver Arrows are the best team with a clear opening for 2025.

Not one to pass up the opportunity to spice things up, Toto Wolff stated two weeks ago in Jeddah that he would “love” to sign the

Dutchman should he become available. Even though Verstappen is grateful to be wanted, he maintains his commitment to his Red

Bull contract, which is valid until 2028. Verstappen is 26 years old.

“I’m happy with the team, and it’s obviously very important that we try and keep the key players in the team for a longer period of

time,” he stated.

“But for sure with the deal in place that’s also my intention to be here to the end, because it would be a great story for me personally

just see it out to the end, because it basically means I’ve been part of one family and one team.”
