The Los Angeles Rams’ secondary is something the San Francisco 49ers should start paying attention to.
Initially, they signed Darious Williams, a passable player who was formerly a cornerback for the Jacksonville Jaguars. According to
Adam Schefter of ESPN, they have now signed former Buffalo Bills CB Tre’Davious White to a one-year contract worth $8.5 million
with a potential $10 million cap.
The Rams have a great secondary already with these two signings. It’s one that the 49ers will find difficult to handle when they play
the Rams twice in 2024. But signing White might be seen as paying too much. It’s not a lack of ability. White has had a consistent
playing career.
His propensity for injuries is the problem. He will never be able to maintain his health. Over the past three seasons, White has missed
thirty games. In 2018, the second year of his career, he was unable to play a whole season. In addition, it’s debatable if he remains the
reliable cornerback of the past.
He’s probably not that good anymore because of all those injuries. They had to have affected him in some way and affected how he
plays. However, it’s not a bad investment for the Rams. If White can stay well and maintain his health, then there is hope. The
temptation to pair him with Williams is overwhelming.
