Oliver Bearman, a rookie for Ferrari, won the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 2024, and Charles Leclerc, who was optimistic that the
young Briton would soon make the switch to Formula 1, praised Bearman for his “incredible” performance.
Bearman was thrown into the deep end on Friday after Carlos Sainz became ill and needed surgery for appendicitis. Bearman was
initially scheduled to compete in the Formula One race this weekend in Jeddah.
Bearman had an outstanding race on Saturday, qualifying in the top ten shootout and only missing a position by the narrowest of
margins.
The eighteen-year-old made a solid start from eleventh on the grid and demonstrated his racing prowess with a string of well-executed
overtakes.
His move against Yuki Tsunoda of RB was especially impressive since it involved a perfectly timed fake that gave him the inside line
into Turn 1.
Bearman settled into P9 midway through the race, and in the second half of the competition, he moved up to P7, receiving the title of
“Driver of the Day” from the Formula One fan base.
Leclerc was working hard among the leaders up ahead and missed his teammate’s accomplishment, but the Monegasque wasn’t shy
about praising the young apprentice from the Scuderia.
