As the 2024 Formula One season progresses, Charles Leclerc thinks Ferrari will be able to put Red Bull “under pressure” because of its
“clear ideas” about how to enhance the SF24.
Before this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix, Ferrari has a solid start to the season and is unquestionably the second-strongest team.
Red Bull is still out of reach, but Leclerc and teammate Carlos Sainz have both finished third once this season.
Leclerc believes that although the Scuderia is “certainly in a better situation than last year,” the gap with Red Bull “is still significant.”
Speaking to a small group of media, including RacingNews365, Leclerc said, “We are talking about maybe four-tenths [of a second] a
lap in the race.”
“I am more upbeat because I am focusing on the team’s general condition, how we are working together, and how we have very clear
ideas about what has to be improved in order for us to move forward rather than the gap.
That’s what gives me hope that we will eventually put Red Bull under more pressure at several races throughout the season. As of right
now, we believe the difference is still too great for us to reasonably claim a victory.”
Vasseur’s influence
Team principal Fred Vasseur is the driving force behind the “clear ideas” that are propelling the Maranello-based business forward.
The Frenchman’s first full stint with Ferrari took place during the most recent winter break, and the results are now available.
“What’s really important for Fred, is to have very clear ideas and to help the team to choose what are the main areas in which we need
to work on,” Leclerc said.
“When you look, there are a thousand things you might have optimized for in a weekend. Then, it is evidently necessary that you
clarify that these are the top three priorities for us to concentrate on, and that there aren’t twenty of them in order to get everyone on
board and working toward the same goals.
