Before the winter transfer window closes, Leeds United are eager to reinforce Daniel Farke’s defense, and they have identified a
number of possible additions.
Djed Spence, a fullback who had a bad loan stint at Elland Road, was called up to Tottenham Hotspur last week, meaning Leeds lost
him. Since then, the former Middlesbrough player has been traded for Radu Dragusin by Genoa.
The Scotland international, who only has six months left on his current contract, moved to Boro on loan until the end of the season,
officially terminating his tenure in Yorkshire. The Whites also finalized the transfer of long-time employee Luke Ayling.
Leeds United is eager to address the matter despite having a slight shortage of fullbacks. The Peacocks were reportedly interested in
acquiring Burnley right-back Connor Roberts and Bournemouth center-half Chris Mepham this month, according to Darren Witcoop’s
report on Wednesday.
But now, according to HITC, the Whites have contacted West Ham United about potentially signing fullback Ben Johnson, whose contract is scheduled to expire at the end of the current campaign.
According to the CIES Football Observatory, Johnson’s market worth has dropped to £4 million. Johnson, who won the Europa
League title with the Hammers the previous season, has only appeared six times for the East London team this season.
The 23-year-old’s future at the London Stadium is now uncertain; therefore, he may be headed to Elland Road.
Author’s Perspective
Johnson has a ton of Premier League experience, which would help the Yorkshire team if they get promoted back to the top division.
He may also be available for a very reasonable price, making this a pretty beneficial addition for Leeds United.
Above all, though, Johnson could be content to be a part of the team rotation behind young prodigy Archie Gray rather than expecting
to start every week—something Farke really needs at this point.
