In an attempt to attempt a three-peat in the Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs are making every effort to hold onto as many
important players as they can. L’Jarius Sneed’s future is still unknown despite re-signing Chris Jones to a five-year, $158.57 million
contract extension.
ESPN source Bill Barnwell advised the Chiefs to sign former Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard as Sneed’s successor should
he leave.
After becoming a cap casualty, Howard, who inked a five-year, $90 million contract with the Dolphins, is now a free agent. The
Dolphins, who were over $51 million over the cap ceiling when they entered free agency, were able to save $18.5 million with a post-
June 1 release.
On Wednesday, March 20, Barnwell listed Howard among the Top 10 best free agents still available. The Chiefs were the “best fit” to
sign the four-time Pro Bowler, according to him as well.
“The Chiefs are a team that I keep coming back to, even though they usually sign underutilized playmakers at cornerback,” wrote
Barnwell. “They should be drawn to Howard’s abilities to generate takeaways and hold up in man coverage.
“If L’Jarius Sneed returns for 2024, this is less of a fit, but if the Chiefs trade their franchise-tagged cornerback, Howard might be
added by general manager Brett Veach to replace his best coverage player from the previous campaign.”
