The Packers would have both Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon available for their game against the Buccaneers today if
Matt LaFleur had his way, but as the Rolling Stones told us back in 1969, things don’t always go as planned. It
appears that the Packers will have to make do with only their “one” instead of their “one-two” punch.
NFL Insider Ian Rapoport tweeted, “While #Packers coach Matt LaFleur said there is optimism that RB Aaron Jones
plays today, source says AJ Dillon is not expected to go.” “Dillon was attempting to play despite having a broken
thumb.”
Given that AJ Dillon has participated in all thirteen games this season while Jones has only been able to play in
seven due to knee and hamstring problems, it is quite surprising that Aaron Jones will likely play while Dillon will
miss the game. It hasn’t been good either way, regardless of who has been leading the Packers backfield charge—
Jones or Dillon. Jones and Dillon are both averaging less than 4 yards per run, and between them, they have only
scored three touchdowns on the ground—one less than the combined total of Jordan Love and wide receiver Jayden
Reed.
Although it’s not exactly Lambeau Field’s Frozen Tundra, the weather in Green Bay is predicted to be cold, windy,
and rainy. These are less than ideal circumstances for Jordan Love to have to throw the ball everywhere against the
Buccaneers. The Packers have been able to rely on their rushing attack in late-season games so frequently under the
LaFleur era, but it’s unclear how Green Bay will react on Sunday afternoon with Aaron Jones questionable and AJ
Dillon out of the picture.
