Sergio Perez claims he is “100%” certain he will be staying with Red Bull for the upcoming season and says he has been “laughing” at
rumors he may announce his retirement from Formula 1 at this weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix.
According to a source, Perez may declare his retirement at his home race after his most recent poor performance at the Qatar Grand
Prix, which capped off an extremely disastrous year.
Red Bull has signed Perez until the end of the 2024 season, but because of his world champion teammate Max Verstappen’s complete
dominance over him, there has been conjecture on whether the company may decide to replace him sooner.
In reference to the news, Perez added, “I also read that,” just in time for this weekend’s United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.
I’m merely giggling at it. Nothing I can do will help. I am really committed to my work.
“My season is summed up by it. A guy makes a comment about me, and then it turns out to be true.
“However, I have a contract for the following year, and there’s no excuse for me to break it. I’ve committed to giving it my all, therefore
I will do that.”
When asked if he was “100%” sure he will be on the team come next season, Perez responded that he had discussed it with Red Bull
advisor Helmut Marko and team principal Christian Horner.
“I have a contract, and the conversations with the team as well,” he stated. “There is no reason for me not to fulfil that contract.”
“This is not my last F1 contract,”
With two wins in the first four races of the season, Perez and Verstappen made a fantastic start to the competition. With five races left,
the Dutchman has earned his third consecutive drivers’ title, although he currently trails his teammate by 209 points.
Although Perez admits that dealing with his teammate’s deficit has been challenging, he insists that he hasn’t given retirement any
thought.
“It is difficult, of sure. It’s not ideal when you go through a difficult time at work “performed Perez.
However, I simply adore the challenge of retaliating.
“The simplest thing to do would be to simply walk away, but I refuse to give up because that is not who I am.
“My main goal is to return to my highest level, and I have no concerns about doing that.
“I do not even think about retirement or anything like that, because that’s just the easy route.”
Perez also stated that his current Formula One deal with Red Bull will not be his last, but he did not say whether or not he would be
willing to drive for a different team.
