Charlotte, North Carolina – The Boston Celtics defeated the Charlotte Hornets 118-104 on Monday night to exact revenge for a defeat
they suffered early in the season. Jayson Tatum finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Sam Hauser scored 25 points on seven
three-pointers.
For the Celtics, who have won 11 of their previous 13 games, Derrick White had 19 points and nine rebounds while Kristaps Porzingis
contributed 20 points.
The Celtics made 19 3-pointers against the Hornets to get revenge for a 121-118 overtime loss on November 20, when Miles Bridges hit
the game-winning 3-pointer with 6.6 seconds remaining. Hauser finished 7 of 11 from beyond the arc.
With 26 points and 11 rebounds, Bridges led the Hornets. Grant Williams and Brandon Miller each scored 23 and 19 points.
Charlotte was hung.
However, the Celtics dominated the third quarter, using their height advantage to build a 16-point lead thanks to 11 points from
Porzingis. A Hornets squad missing seven-foot centers Nick Richards and Mark Williams was feasted upon by Porzingis.
Hauser then increased the margin to 19 points in the fourth quarter with two more dagger threes. In the second half, he scored five
threes.
With 5:37 remaining in the game, White’s driving layup put Boston ahead 111-96. The Celtics outrebounded the smaller Hornets 51-40
on the glass and also had three offensive rebounds in one quarter.
