Penrith’s chances of completing a ‘four-peat’ have been downplayed by Panthers fullback Dylan Edwards, who suggests that the team’s only goal is to win.
After finishing second in the regular season, they are well-positioned to record an almost unbelievable fourth grand final victory in a succession, having already set NRL history by winning a treble the previous year.
Edwards, though, stated to the media on Tuesday that the Panthers were not primarily focused on it.
“Our goal is to triumph,” Edwards stated.
“We have the chance to complete a four-peat, but our main goal as a team is victory.
“We’ve put ourselves in a good position to be able to do that, [but] there’s a big month of footy coming up [and] we just want to win.”
For several Penrith favourites, Jarome Luai and James Fisher-Harris, who are expected to leave the foot of the mountains at the end of the year, it will also be their final finals series.
Relegation is a major source of motivation for the team, according to Edwards.
“I think we owe it to them to send them out on a good note,” Edwards added.
It will be the grand final in a few weeks.
