Clark Haggans, an NFL player for the Pittsburgh Steelers, shocked the American football community when he went away at the age of
46.
A sports radio presenter from Pittsburgh broke the news on Tuesday night, confirming the death of the Super Bowl XL winner.
During his 13-year NFL career, Haggans spent eight of those with the Steelers from 2000 to 2007. He’s only had one Super Bowl
victory, which came in 2005. He finished the season with a career-high nine sacks for the Steelers, who won that game 21–10.
Unknown cause of death for Haggans
The coroner’s office stated in a statement that “no foul play is evident,” although the reason of Haggans’ death is not yet known.
The San Francisco 49ers and the Arizona Cardinals were among Haggans’ other teams. He was a member of the 49ers’ 2012 NFC
championship team and made it to the Super Bowl once more.
The fact that the Steelers had selected his buddy and college teammate Joey Porter the year before added a special touch to his 2000
draft selection.
“I was relieved to get recruited and to meet Joey, who welcomed me with open arms. They ought to have played that reunion song,”
Haggans stated in a 2019 interview with Steelersnow.com.
Haggans reminisced about his first NFL game, saying, “Seeing Troy Aikman made me feel like a celebrity. On my Techno-Bowl team, I
used to use him,” Haggans said. “I stayed put when they snapped the ball since Randall Cunningham was on their squad at the time.
My crotch was grabbed while I stood there, unable to process the sudden events.
“My coach would tell me, the guy with the ball, to go get him and keep him from scoring before the pros.” I was thrilled if we outscored
the opposition team,” Haggans remarked. “I now had to become knowledgeable about spread offenses, two-minute offenses, jumbo
packages, and unbalanced lines. It was simply insane. Go get the guy with the ball was no longer the only strategy.
