WVLT – KNOXVILLE, Tenn. I have some depressing news to share. According to information obtained by WVLT, Mike Hamilton, the
former men’s athletic director at the University of Tennessee, passed away from health issues. He was sixty years old.
From 2003 to 2010, Hamilton served as UT’s athletic director, succeeding Doug Dickey in the role. He was named the seventh men’s
AD at the university.
In 2008, Hamilton appointed Lane Kiffin to take Phillip Fulmer’s place as the Vol football team’s head coach. After months of dealing
with various NCAA difficulties, including sanctions imposed against the UT basketball program and head coach Bruce Pearl at the
time, Hamilton resigned from his role as athletic director at UT in June 2011.
Hamilton was experiencing health problems that necessitated
Hamilton held the post of Executive Vice President of the University Partnership Group at Learfield after departing from UT, bringing
with him thirty years of expertise leading collegiate athletics.
