Missouri’s Kansas City After losing Drue Tranquill, their starting linebacker, and several other important players to
injuries sustained during last week’s loss to the Green Bay Packers, the Kansas City Chiefs may be getting injured
linebacker Nick Bolton back just in time.
On Wednesday, as the Chiefs began practicing for their game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, Tranquill was still
undergoing the concussion protocol.
Bolton, however, will continue to work out after the team opened the 21-day window during which they have to
determine whether to activate him or place him on injured reserve for the remainder of the season, according to
coach Andy Reid.
Bolton hasn’t played since undergoing surgery to realign his wrist, which happened during the Week 7 victory
against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Chiefs defensive end Mike Danna described Nick as “a great player, a significant impact player.” “It will be
tremendous for us just to have him back there.”
In Green Bay, the Chiefs also lost starting safety Bryan Cook to what looked to be a serious ankle injury, though the
most of the testing on it have shown positive results. Reid described it as “a sprain” and stated that further
assessment was still pending.
Cook will probably be replaced in the starting lineup by Mike Edwards and youngster Chamarri Conner.
On the other side of the ball, the Chiefs are not sure if running back Isiah Pacheco will be available due to a bruised
shoulder and are getting ready to play without left tackle Donovan Smith due to a neck injury.
Against the Packers, Pacheco ran eighteen times for 110 yards and a touchdown. The Chiefs would rely on Clyde
Edwards-Helaire and possibly Jerick McKinnon if he is unable to play against the Bills. McKinnon returned to
practice on Wednesday following a groin injury.
Smith was replaced by Wanya Morris, a third-round selection in the April draft, who performed admirably against
the Packers. Even prior to the injury, he was receiving a few spot reps, and
Morris declared on Wednesday that “your preparation should never change.” “I just need to be sure that the details
are my main focus.”
Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for the Chiefs, has complete trust in his backup blindside protector.
“He performed admirably. “I think it’s about getting him ready for a great defensive line. If you watch the tape, he’s
done a great job in the run game and the pass game,” Mahomes stated. He’s done a decent job holding the position.
NOTES: This week, Mahomes was selected to represent the Chiefs in the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. “The
group and fraternity of guys who have won that award before me is amazing,” he remarked. “It must be difficult to
choose. There are a tonne of guys that give back to the community. I’m just happy that I could receive that group’s
recognition.
