After suffering from an abnormal heartbeat for years, Arnold Schwarzenegger had covert surgery this week.
On his podcast, “Arnold’s Pump Club,” the action actor disclosed that he underwent surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. “I would like to
share some personal news. I had pacemaker surgery last Monday, and I kind of turned into a machine,” the 76-year-old said to the
audience.
Saying this to all of you goes against a lot of my Austrian upbringing. wherein medical matters were never discussed. You kept
everything about health care to yourself,” he continued.
Schwarzenegger revealed more about the process after being upfront about having several open heart surgeries in the past, one of
which nearly ended in death.
“It only feels right to write about this because I know that being truthful and fighting my own tendency toward secrecy benefits
individuals. I want you to know that I’m doing fantastic first of all. “I was at a major environmental event by Friday after my surgery
on Monday,” he remarked, alluding to a conference hosted by the Campaign for a Safe and Healthy California. Actress and activist
Jane Fonda was present, as was California Governor Gavin Newsom.
“Nobody would have ever thought I started the week with a surgery,” he said.
Schwarzenegger had open heart surgery in 1997 to replace his first dual valve replacement because he was born with a bicuspid aortic
valve. Schwarzengger underwent a non-invasive treatment in 2018 to replace one of his two valves; but, due to a medical error on the
part of the staff, he was forced into open heart surgery.
The “Fubar” actor visited the Cleveland Clinic in 2020 to have his second valve changed. After staying in contact with the team and
going back for yearly check-ups, Schwarzenegger’s physicians informed him in early March that he would require a pacemaker
following a battery of tests.
