After leading the Eagles to a 42–12 victory over Spain in November, former USA international Nate Brakeley came to
an end of his stint wearing the uniform.
The triumph served as a welcome diversion from the tragic USA loss in the 2023 Rugby World Cup qualifying round.
Speaking of World Cups, Brakeley was questioned about the Rugby World Cups that the USA will hold in 2031 and
2033.
Speaking about the occasion, the former second rower provided a fascinating perspective on what would appeal to
the somewhat elusive bigger USA sports market.
“There are plenty of large stadiums to place this in, as you mention.
“There will be a significant infrastructure in place to ensure the success of these events, regardless of whether we do
this in a regional system and conduct pools by regions or in some other manner.
“I believe that Americans enjoy events, and even though rugby is only a small portion of the event’s appeal, there’s a
festival-like vibe about it.
You don’t even need to be aware of what’s going on on the field, based on how Sevens basically handles everything.
It’s exhilarating because, thankfully, many of people are bumping into each other.
“How about we make this an occasion where rugby happens? And since it’s just going to get better, let’s make this
something you want to attend.
“I believe that the tailgating culture surrounding college football and the fervent enthusiasm that arises around
almost any athletic event are distinctly American experiences. Therefore, how can we capitalize on it and entice the
same audiences to attend a match merely out of curiosity?
The international audience will undoubtedly attend. Due to its vastness and plenty of chances, traveling to the
United States is undoubtedly reasonably inexpensive. Thus, I’m not worried about it.
However, if they truly want to make this an American event, we must capitalize on the nation’s love of tailgating,
barbecues, and shouting for
In addition to being an intriguing idea, the 34-year-old’s insight into what might draw in American fans also seems
like a fun proposition for foreign fans hoping to have the whole USA experience.
