An unexpected cancer diagnosis will require Exeter Chiefs star to receive chemotherapy.

Aidon Davis, a backrow forward for the Exeter Chiefs, has disclosed that he will be receiving cancer treatment.

He revealed on Wednesday that the 29-year-old South African has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and would receive chemotherapy for the illness. The lymphatic system is a network of veins and glands that runs throughout the body. Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a form of cancer that assaults the immune system. In the UK, the cancer affects around 13,000 people annually.

Exeter Chiefs' Aidon Davis to undergo chemotherapy after cancer diagnosis

Prior to the 2022–2023 season, Davis left the Toyota Cheetahs to join the Chiefs. He has appeared in 21 games for the team, most recently coming off the bench at Bath Rugby earlier this month after starting at number eight the previous weekend. Speaking about his diagnosis, David stated: “I recently learned that I have non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.” I am still in excellent health and fitness, but I will need to undergo chemotherapy, which will prevent me from being considered for the next few months. As long as my condition permits, I’ll keep up my training and do everything in my power to support the squad.

Both the doctors and I are quite optimistic about the course of therapy and the outcomes that it will provide. I would like to express my gratitude to my wife for being at my side throughout everything, as well as to my family and friends, particularly the Chiefs family, the players, the coaching staff, the medical team, and everyone else in the organization for their unwavering support and understanding. I promise to return soon, stronger and in better health than before.

Director of rugby Rob Baxter continued, saying: “Obviously, Aidon and his family are going through a difficult period, but he was wise enough to check with the club’s medical professionals about his initial concerns, which led to a prompt diagnosis and, consequently, early and rapid treatment.

“All of us at the Chiefs are fully supporting him in his endeavor to recover to full health, and I am aware of Aidon’s intense desire to stay involved in the club by training and participating in events whenever he can.” He is a very powerful and well-liked character, and I am confident that all of our fans will stand by him wherever and whenever we can, along with the players, staff, and me.
