The fact that Rodriguez inked a five-year contract this offseason is excellent news for the organization. Back spasms had slowed him
down early in the training.
Although the Jays’ plans for Rodriguez are still unknown, it appears that there are a number of possibilities available. Given Alek
Manoah’s injury concerns, is he a contender for the fifth starter job if they intend to get him to five innings by the end of spring
training?
Could they also send him down to Triple-A to continue working as a starter and increasing his pitch total? Or do they view him as a
late-inning replacement who can be used in the bullpen when the major league season begins?
Jose Berrios, Kevin Gausman, Yusei Kikuchi, Chris Bassitt, and Manoah appeared to have a firm hold on starting rotation places going
into camp, but things are now more uncertain in light of Manoah’s injury.
Last season, Toronto qualified for the playoffs after finishing third in the American League East. However, they were defeated by the
Minnesota Twins in the wild card round.
