In the College Football Playoff on Monday night in the Sugar Bowl, the Texas Longhorns will take on the Washington
Huskies in an attempt to advance to the national championship game one week later. These are the game predictions
from the writers at LoneStarLive.com.
The more I consider this match, the more I believe Washington and Texas are balanced evenly.
Both teams have robust offensive lineups, but their passing attacks are especially strong, as evidenced by the
Huskies’ top-ranked passing offense. Although neither team is attempting to run the ball down your throat, the
Longhorns want to run it more. Neither side does a very good job stopping the pass. When it comes to passing yards
allowed, both teams are actually in the lowest third of the country. The match to watch is as follows: The Joe Moore
Award-winning offensive line of Washington takes on the Texas defense line, which is led by tackles T’Vondre Sweat
and Byron Murphy II, who are perhaps the best interior tandem in the country.
I wavered, but ultimately, I think Texas’s defensive line is superior to Washington’s offensive line. The Huskies
offensive line should be able to hold Michael Penix Jr. upright, and if he can, not many quarterbacks can throw the
ball as well as the sixth-year senior from LSU, who finished second to Jayden Daniels for the Heisman Trophy this
fall.
Additionally, bear in mind that Derek Williams Jr., who was ejected for targeting during the second half kickoff of
the Big 12 championship game, will not be present in the Texas secondary for Penix Jr. and the Washington offense’s
first half of play.
