There is good news in Tallahassee, even though the Florida State Seminoles enter the offseason still suffering from
their 63-3 Orange Bowl loss to the Georgia Bulldogs and their College Football Playoff snub.
Former Oregon State and Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei will be playing for head coach Mike Norvell at Florida
State, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
This has been planned for some time, as Thamel also mentioned, when Uiagalelei was debating between the NFL and
the Seminoles. Jordan Travis of FSU, who has used up all of his eligibility, will be replaced by him, who was regarded
as one of the greatest quarterbacks on the transfer portal.
Uiagalelei began his career at Clemson in 2020 as Trevor Lawrence’s backup. The next year, he started for the Tigers
and led them to a 10-3 record, however he only completed nine touchdown passes to ten interceptions. He made
significant progress in 2022, throwing for 22 touchdown passes, but he chose to transfer to Oregon State after being
benched in favor of Cade Klubnik during the ACC Championship.
In addition to leading the team to an 8-4 record, Uiagalelei had a fantastic one-season career at Oregon State, where
he also set career highs in receiving yards (2,638 yards) and touchdown passes (21, to be exact).
Uiagalelei and Florida State are set to play his old team, Clemson, at some point during the upcoming season, though
the exact date has not yet been revealed.
