ALLEN PARK β Kindle Vildor, the new cornerback for the Detroit Lions, appears to have done well enough in his
one game against his former team last weekend to earn more defensive opportunities going forward.
After starting the game, Jerry Jacobs eventually drew 53 more snaps. However, Vildor took his place for a few series,
recording 17 snaps in his team debut before experiencing cramps that cut short his day. While opposition
quarterbacks have made it a point to feed that side of the field, Jacobs has been stuck in a prolonged rut. Compared
to his teammates, he has been targeted seven times more often and given up eight more catches than any other Lions
defense.
Although Campbell worked for Patyon for five years as the Saints’ assistant head coach, he is by no means the only
Lions staffer to leave the Payton tree. During those five years, Aaron Glenn, the defensive coordinator for the Lions,
also served as the team’s defensive backs coach. And Payton tutored linebacker Alex Anzalone of the Lions for four
years before he started his NFL career.
Anzalone is also aware that Payton will enjoy a game exactly like this one.
Anzalone remarked, “I know that Sean’s probably trying to come here and put 50 up on us.” That is what we need to
prepare for. Simply because of all the personal ties, it is who he is.
Naturally, though, that motivation is reciprocal. Without a doubt, Campbell will be excited to demonstrate his
mentor that, in Year 3 of his leadership, the Lions are serious contenders. Anzalone acknowledged that this is an
unusual week for him to prepare as he tries to impress Payton and a few other Broncos coaches with whom he had a
personal relationship during their time as Saints, such as outside linebackers coach Michael Wilhoite.)
“I understand that you approach these kinds of games differently than I do,” Anzalone remarked. “Just because you
have firsthand experience with someone. It certainly, most likely, gives your weekly activities a little more edge.
Nevertheless, it seems that both teams are currently going in different paths. Following a 5-1
In contrast, the Broncos lost their first five games of the season but have since won six of their past seven. Payton has
previously compared and used the 2022 Lionsβwho went from 1-6 to 9-8) as an example of the team’s comeback.
Payton stated on Monday, “At 1-5, we just pointed to a similar situation a year ago.” Stated differently, a 1-6 team
that managed to turn the tide. Actually, that was all there was to it.
However, Campbell is optimistic that this year’s team will be stronger and prepared for the task at hand this week.
“It’s all about winning, dude. That’s what drives us and me. All we need to do is figure out how to prevail, and we’ll
need to be at best
