ALLEN PARK — This weekend’s potential absence of Alim McNeill for the Detroit Lions is a big concern for a team
that has spent the season rotating healthy scratches with their depth on the interior defensive line.
Consequently, Tyson Alualu, a 13-year veteran and former first-round pick at defensive lineman, is being signed by
the Lions, according to his agency. If and when a corresponding move is announced on Tuesday, we’ll update this
post. Alualu might choose to follow Bruce Irvin’s path around these parts and join the practice squad in the
beginning to get back up to speed.
When Alualu last played in the league, he was a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers and participated in all 17 games,
making two starts. He recorded 13 tackles, 0.5 sacks, and two quarterback hits in 291 defensive plays. Even if he’s
never
His best seasons were in 2020 and 2019, when he was ranked as PFF’s fifth-best interior defender and twelveth-best
overall with the Steelers.
McNeill is hurting and in pain following a brawl with a teammate in New Orleans. Dan Campbell stated they’ll find
out more about his condition this week after seeing the knee’s reaction.
According to Pro Football Focus, the third-year defensive tackle is ranked sixth overall after being one of the most
reliable and significant players at his position this season.
The head coach of the Lions stated, “Mac’s a little banged up, so we’ll know more on him probably in a couple of
days.” “It’s possible he’s not awake either.”
This season, rookie Brodric Martin has missed just one game due to injury. With just six games played, including just
one in November, Levi Onwuzurike has had a small part. Isaiah Buggs has also had an unusual season with the
Lions, switching between the active and inactive lists due to injuries and other situations that aren’t fully explained.
In recent weeks, Quinton Bohana has been given several opportunities. Although his first two games have been up
and down, he is a huge presence in the middle. Considering that Benito Jones hasn’t spoken much in his 12 games, it
makes reasonable that the Lions would investigate the depth of defensive tackles.
