According to Italian reports, Ferrari is preparing a “assault on the magic circle” of Red Bull’s technical staff, aimed at “three figures”
who are in close collaboration with Pierre Wache, the technical director.
Ferrari has reportedly switched its focus to Wache, despite the fact that it has long been known that the Scuderia wants to sign Adrian
Newey, the Red Bull design mastermind. The Scuderia has already made three confirmed efforts to sign Newey.
It is said that Ferrari is vying for Red Bull’s intellectual trust.
Christian Horner, the head of the Red Bull team, disclosed to him last year that Wache had told him clearly he was not planning to
switch from Red Bull to Ferrari.
“There are no plans for any personnel to move to Ferrari, at least not at a senior or medium level,” Horner stated. “People who have
been linked to Ferrari came to see me last week and expressed their skepticism in some of these rumors,” Horner continued.
But after the club signed Lewis Hamilton, new rumors surfaced last month suggesting Wache was now “seriously considering” a move
to Maranello.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Ferrari is more interested in signing “three” well-placed members of Wache’s staff than in
signing him.
The Italian daily claims Ferrari has “intensified contacts with some members of the technical office of the World Champion team” in
reference to “increasingly insistent and consistent rumours.”
The article claims Ferrari is interested in “at least three figures who occupy the crucial position of engineering and detailed definition
of the developments planned for the single-seater in the technical chain of command,” branding it a “assault on the magic circle made
up of technicians working closely with technical director Pierre Wachè, Adrian Newey’s right-hand man.”
