The future of the coaching staff and the roster are major concerns as the Green Bay Packers 2023 regular season
draws to a close. But the year’s most important query has already been resolved: The quarterback of the present and
the future is Jordan Love. Love has passed for 3,587 yards, 27 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 62.5% completion
rate through 15 games. His quarterback rating is 91.8.
Of course, the most significant question this season was the one pertaining to their quarterback. Whether they
qualify for the NFL Playoffs or not, the season can be deemed successful in some ways because they now know they
can center their strategy around Love.
Regretfully, a strong quarterback does not automatically translate into a strong squad. Moreover, an offense need
more than just a talented quarterback to succeed. The Packers’ run offense has been weak all season long in 2023.
Aaron Jones became the first Packers wide receiver or running back to reach 100 yards in a game this season in the
team’s 33-30 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.\
The Packers have no doubts about who will start at quarterback in the future, but there are a lot of unanswered
problems at running back.
The Packers’ running back room is not entirely assured after this season, even though Jordan Love will earn a
contract extension this offseason and the wide receivers and tight ends are still under rookie contracts.
Though AJ Dillon wishes to remain in Green Bay, it’s unclear if other teams share his desire. Dillon will be a free
agency. Although Jones still has one year left on his deal, as football fans are aware, the NFL does not care about
that.
Jones is expected to have a $17.7 million cap hit in 2019 but a $12.3 million dead cap hit, according Spotrac. In
addition, the pact includes three further empty years for him. Put another way, by letting him go, the Packers might
save $5.4 million. It is understandable why the Packers would decide to let him go given that he will turn 30 years
old in the coming year and has missed the majority of this campaign due to injuries.
However, when fit, Jones is a potent running back who might contribute significantly to the offense again next
season provided he can stay injury-free. However, Dillon has fallen short of expectations regarding his draft standing
(2020).
He will undoubtedly try to stay with the Packers when he hits free agency, but as previously indicated, the
organization may seek elsewhere.
