Joe Milton III will not play in the Tennessee Volunteers’ bowl game against the Iowa Hawkeyes this Monday because
he is concentrating on his future.
In the Citrus Bowl, Tennessee, rated No. 21 at 8-4, will play the No. 17 Hawkeyes (10-3). After playing his
outstanding senior season, Milton declared on social media that he will forego the competition and instead declare
for the 2024 NFL Draft.
Milton passed for 2,813 yards, 20 touchdowns, and five interceptions this season. In addition, he scored seven
touchdowns and 299 yards rushing.
With this announcement, his college career comes to an end, despite his stellar stats.
Coming out of high school in Orlando, Florida, Milton was rated as a four-star quarterback. He signed with the
Michigan Wolverines and played primarily as a backup quarterback for three seasons at Ann Arbor.
In 2021, he moved to Tennessee in the hopes of becoming Josh Heupel’s starting quarterback. However, he was only
the QB1 for two games when a leg injury allowed Hendon Hooker to take over in Tennessee. In 2022, Milton served
as Hooker’s backup and eventually received a chance to
this previous season’s starter.
Although he’s now one of the more intriguing quarterback prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft, he clearly behind
players in the rankings such as Drake Maye (North Carolina), Michael Penix Jr. (Washington), Jayden Daniels
(LSU), Bo Nix (Oregon), J.J. McCarthy (Michigan), and Caleb Williams (USC).
