A week ago, it appeared as though Antonio Pierce was about to begin his final four games in charge of the Las Vegas
Raiders as their temporary head coach, until they find a long-term successor for Josh McDaniels, who was fired.
That’s what happens when you lose three straight games and are shut out following the bye week.
However, as the Raiders get ready to play the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas Day in seven days, there is some
newfound enthusiasm about the club and Pierce’s position on it.
That’s what happens after the club defeats the division foe Los Angeles Chargers 63-21, setting a team record.
With three games remaining, let’s examine Pierce’s prospects of winning the position in more detail:
Was the Chargers’ thrilling victory enough?
Though it’s a franchise highlight that will never be forgotten, would Raiders owner Mark Davis still be enamored
with Week 15’s sheer joy if the Raiders lose? Most likely not. To put things in perspective, the Raiders’ previous
single-game scoring record came from their 59-10 victory over Denver in 2010. Al Davis, the father of Davis, fired
coach Tom Cable following that 8–8 season. Ultimately, regardless of how magnificent it may have been, it’s just one
game.
