Several players from the practice squad from the previous season are still with the Commanders.
The team declared that Mason Brooks, a guard, and Kazmeir Allen, a wide receiver/kick returner, had been re-signed. There will be
competition between the two guys for spots on the 90-man offseason roster.
After leaving UCLA undrafted in 2023, Allen signed a contract. During the team’s preseason schedule, he caught four passes;
nevertheless, he did not make the 53-man roster and was placed on the practice squad for the whole season.
During his collegiate career, Brooks attended Ole Miss and Western Kentucky. He was not drafted in April of last year, thus he also
signed with the Commanders.

Bobby Johnson, Commanders Coach, Seek to Establish and Uphold Standards
ASHBURN, Virginia Division rivalries, such as the one the Washington Commanders share with their NFC East rivals, are generally
seen by non-NFL fans as holy boundaries that should never be crossed.
As evidenced by the Commanders’ hiring of coaches from the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, and New York Giants this
offseason, they are less strict within the league.
One of them, offensive line coach Bobby Johnson, joins a freshly formed staff that is still getting to know one another while laying the
groundwork for what will eventually become a new identity for each of them in the DMV. Johnson arrives to Washington after playing
for the New York Giants for the previous two seasons.
Coach Johnson states, “We’ve just begun to scratch the surface of what we strive to be.” “We want to want to be (on offense) balanced,
which is a key notion. I’ve played in a number of offenses, and the objective is always to make the defense work harder to stop you.
They can play to your one dimension or they can take away your one dimension if you are one-dimensional. The defense is under
stress when they have to play both of you because they are unsure of who you will be if you are balanced. The key to finding balance is
to begin dictating to the defense rather than allowing the defense to dictate to you. Thus, that will be the objective.
Fans of the Commanders would love to see them dictate to an opponent, especially because 2023 seemed to be more about them just
responding to their surroundings than anything more.
But in order to accomplish those goals, Coach Johnson adds, the team itself must first have a clear idea of who they are and what is
expected of them.
This is the item we are searching for. We want to set the following standard. Will you ascend to that level of expectation? When asked
what advice he would give to his new players, Johnson responded, “If you are, great, you’re going to find a role.” Someone else will fill
that job if you don’t. Surprisingly, the majority of guys say, “That’s all I want.” That’s essentially what we’re trying to establish here: “I
want a clear expectation so I know what I’m working toward.”You have to be a dedicated guy to reach this level. Many guys will try to
live up to your expectations if you let them know what you’re looking for. That will be the main takeaway from the
message.Furthermore, it’s not
Being driven and determined is one way to get into the NFL. To completely embrace your identity as a team and force it upon your
opponent, however, requires more.
In past decades of DMV football, Washington regularly engaged in this activity, and it’s something this staff hopes to resume at this
time.
