One of the six victims of an early Saturday morning automobile tragedy in Houston was former NFL cornerback D.J. Hayden, who
spent his final season with the Washington Commanders in 2021.
His age was thirty-three.
Zach McMillian, a former defensive back for the University of Houston, was also a victim of the tragedy.
Prior to being selected by the Raiders in the first round of the 2013 draft, Hayden studied at Navarro College in his home state of
Texas. From 2011 to 2012, he attended the University of Houston.
Following a collision with another player during practice, Hayden suffered a potentially fatal cardiac condition that ended his college
career. However, he overcame that experience to excel in college.
Hayden played in the NFL for nine years after being selected as a top pick in the draft. He spent his first four seasons with the Raiders,
followed by stints with the Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Washington Football Team.
Hayden recorded 328 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and four interceptions in 92 games overall. In 2021, he concluded his league career.
