Due to a chest ailment, wide receiver Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings will not play against the Las Vegas
Raiders on Sunday. He left the game in the first half.
In Vegas, as the second half got begun, the Vikings ruled Jefferson out. Thus, the 24-year-old’s two-month absence
from the field was short-lived during his first game back. Against the Raiders, the three-time Pro Bowler grabbed two
early receptions. The second of those was hit hard over the middle, forcing the wide receiver out of the game.
What is known regarding Jefferson’s injuries is as follows.
What Was the Status of Jefferson?
Nineteen seconds remained in the first half when Jefferson hauled in a disputed fifteen-yard catch. However, he paid
the cost. Raiders safety Marcus Epps delivered a strong hit to the All-Pro as he jumped into the air to snag a high
throw from Vikings quarterback Joshua Dobbs. Minnesota gained a first down as a result of the play.
Following the blow, the fourth-year wide receiver for Minnesota remained on the ground, clutching his stomach in
agony. Jefferson rose to his feet and walked off the field. He went to the sideline medical tent first, and then the
locker room. As a precaution, the team stated that Jefferson is being sent to a nearby hospital. He played 13 snaps
and concluded the game with two catches for 27 yards on three targets, according to ESPN.
At 0 all at halftime, the Vikings (6-6) and Raiders (5-7) were tied. After two straight losses, Minnesota will drop
below.500 and have a challenging path to the postseason if its current losing skid continues to three games.
Jefferson’s Injury Timetable for 2023
Prior to this, Jefferson missed seven games due to a right hamstring injury that occurred in Week 5. After spending
some time on injured reserve, the LSU product was activated last month and was prepared to play against the
Raiders following Minnesota’s Week 13 bye.
What should have been a memorable season for Jefferson has been thwarted by injuries.
Over the season’s first four games, the 6-foot-1 pass-catcher averaged 135.8 receiving yards per game. Jefferson
would have easily beaten Calvin Johnson’s record of 1,964 receiving yards for a single season at that rate. Despite
everything, Jefferson was still able to leave his mark on history during his brief Sunday comeback. Hall of Famer
Randy Moss was eclipsed by the former first-round selection for
After his injury, the current Offensive Player of the Year had only accumulated 571 yards for the season. Last week,
Jefferson announced that reaching 1,000 was his new season objective.
It’s getting harder to get there now.
It’s unknown what Jefferson’s status will be like next week. Furthermore, Kirk Cousins, the starting quarterback for
the Minnesota Vikings, tore his Achilles, adding insult to injury to an already dismal season.
According to Jefferson, “it’s been hard to adjust those goals honestly,” as reported by ESPN last week. “To have
missed seven games this season, especially considering how quickly I was playing prior to the injury. It’s a bit
difficult to see Tyreek [Hill] go bonkers each week and to watch other players in the league accomplish amazing
things. It’s been difficult because this is my first season in the league that I’ve been injured.”
