Teun Koopmeiners of Atalanta has been linked to Tottenham Hotspur recently.
Tottenham has “knocked on the door” of the Italian team about the midfielder for the Netherlands national team. Tottenham is not
the only team vying for Koopmeiners, though. Manchester United is reportedly considering Koopmeiners as well.
The 25-year-old is allegedly worth a starting price of about €60 million, or £51 million, should Spurs decide to pursue him.
In the summer, Tottenham may want to add more players to their midfield, possibly including an anchor to play with Yves Bissouma.
And Koopmeiners seems like a solid choice, especially in light of the fact that Spurs have had success in the Italian market on several
occasions since the decade began.
What could Tottenham anticipate from the Atalanta, though?
Teun Koopmeiners is a target for Tottenham – factfile
Since rising through the ranks at AZ and becoming a key member of the team, Koopmeiners has only become better, earning a transfer
to Atalanta in 2021.
Breaking the Lines, a documentary that aired back in 2020, went into great detail on Koopmeiners’ playing style and the reasons that
made him so valuable to AZ, his current club.
They stated, “Koopmeiners is the mastermind behind AZ’s build-up play, primarily playing on the left side of the midfield pivot in
(Arne) Slot’s 4-2-3-1, but he also fills in as central defense when needed.”
“He possesses exceptional skill with the ball, and his passing enables AZ to break free from the counter-press.
“Koopmeiners usually positions himself between the center backs or slightly forward of them during the build-up, allowing AZ to
maneuver the opponent’s pressuring and advance the ball further forward when he isn’t playing defense.
“The club captain can advance the ball into midfield by dribbling out of pressure and is skilled at breaking the lines with precise long
balls.”
Teun Koopmeiners, a player dubbed a “Toni Kroos,” is a Tottenham target.
Koopmeiners has been providing Atalanta with more of the same; in 104 games, he has scored 21 goals and provided 12 assists for the
Bergamo team. In addition, he owns 20 Netherlands caps.
The alleged Tottenham target has been dubbed “extraordinary” by Atalanta star Domenico Progna, while Koopmeiners’ agent Bert
Baving has drawn comparisons to Toni Kroos.
“It’s always hard to make comparisons, but he’s a Toni Kroos, Jorginho, (Nemanja) Matic, or (Manuel) Locatelli type,” he said to FC
Inter News. “The only thing is that Teun will score more goals than any of these players.”
